Position Title: Grounds Supervisor

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Monongahela Cemetery seeks a dedicated and reliable Grounds Supervisor to oversee all groundskeeping operations, lead a team of skilled staff, and maintain the cemetery’s reputation for excellence. Your work will preserve a cherished space of historical significance, serving as a source of solace and reflection for the community. This full-time position combines hands-on work, team management, and collaboration with the Cemetery Superintendent.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Grounds Maintenance: Lead and participate in mowing, trimming, planting, and maintaining roadways to uphold the cemetery’s serene and polished appearance.

Gravesite Preparation: Coordinate and assist with gravesite preparation, opening, and closing, ensuring precision and timeliness for scheduled services.

Equipment Management: Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, irrigation systems, and backhoes.

Supervision: Lead a team of groundskeepers, assigning tasks, providing training, and monitoring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.

Preventative Maintenance: Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for equipment and infrastructure to ensure longevity and minimize downtime.

Safety Compliance: Conduct regular safety briefings and inspections, ensuring all activities comply with established safety regulations and protocols.

Visitor Assistance: Provide courteous and respectful assistance to visitors, addressing inquiries or concerns to enhance their experience.

Seasonal Duties: Oversee seasonal tasks, including the installation and removal of decorations and snow removal.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including equipment maintenance and repair.

Collaboration: Partner with the Cemetery Superintendent to plan and execute special projects and continuous improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Experience in groundskeeping or landscaping.

At least two years in a supervisory or leadership role.

A valid driver’s license.

Ability to operate a backhoe, verified through experience, certification, or demonstrated proficiency.

Preferred:

Vocational training in landscaping or a related field.

Specialized equipment operation.

Skills:

Proficiency in operating and maintaining groundskeeping equipment.

Strong leadership and communication skills.

Knowledge of plant care, pest control, and irrigation systems.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods.

Capability to work in various weather conditions.

COMPENSATION
Compensation will vary based on experience and qualifications. The salary range for this position is $16-23 per hour in addition to health benefits.
